ABOUT ELLIOTT WISLAR
Elliott built a Championship reputation in sailing, and has achieved the same reputation as a highly acclaimed business professional. He has held senior executive positions in marketing, distribution and Asset Management with FleetBoston, The Boston Company (a division of Bank of New York, Mellon, and UBS.).
In 2005, Elliott founded Clearbrook Global Advisors (Clearbrook) based upon the philosophy that the marketplace needed a financial advisory firm that provided client- centric solutions that at its core was dedicated to providing clients with non-conflicted and transparent advice. He has grown Clearbrook both domestically and internationally and advises and manages over $10 billion in assets today.
Elliott attributes Clearbrook’s success to his sense of humility and the ability to be able to “look at things a little differently. Elliott speaks passionately about his love of sailing and business. “In sailing we have a concept known as ‘Velocity Made Good.’ An experienced sailor avoids sailing too close into the wind or directly down wind, but instead accounts for variations such as currents, and wind changes, to maximize speed and reach the finish line first. Business,” Elliott continues, “is no different. We must constantly adjust our strategies to the ever-changing business climate to provide our clients with the optimum solutions for reaching their goals. The era of five-year business plans has disappeared and we must move at the speed of business. This demands we create and adjust 6-month tactical plans to stay ahead of our business competition and to assist our clients with the ever changing markets, just as we adjust our sails and positioning on our boat to actively maintain our edge.”
Nearly 60% of Clearbrook’s clients are Foundations and Endowments (half of those are religious in nature). Elliott has served on many Boards of Foundations and Endowments. He and his family created the Mary Elliott Memorial Scholarship Foundation to honor both the memory of his mother as a pioneer for women seeking higher education, and to create scholarships for women entering college as freshmen in New Jersey. Further, he understands the importance of a Fiduciary relationship as the cornerstone of Asset Management. As Elliott explains: “In the spirit of the great Jurist, Benjamin Cardoza, A Fiduciary is held to something much stricter than simply the morals of the marketplace. A Fiduciary must not just demonstrate honesty, he must become, as Cardoza said, ‘the punctilio of an honor so sensitive, that it is the standard of all of his behavior.’ I take this role very seriously as does each and every member of our Clearbrook Team.”
Elliott has achieved success in business by applying wisdom and tactics from his greatest influencers: His Grandfather, who was the founder of several successful companies and taught Elliott a “Never-say-die” attitude, and four-star General and Commander of the U.S. Central Command, Norman Schwarzkopf, Jr., a Trenton, New Jersey native, who Elliott says, “showed his troops on the battlefield to never remain sedentary. Those that remain sedentary in business will never win the battle.”
Elliott Wakefield Wislar was educated at the University of Arizona with a BA in Political Science and an MBA in International Management with a focus in finance and Japanese language from The Thunderbird School of Global Management, Arizona State University. Elliott lives in Princeton, NJ, where his fourth-generation children were raised (Elliott Junior, Mackenzie and Wes). He enjoys sailing, fishing, golf, traveling the world, experiencing fine wine, reading and looking for new adventures.
